Street Photography 2014

We wander without reason, no goal to attain, innocent intuition in a society of games.  Our feet take us forward at a leisurely pace, over streets of old-town we arrive in this place.  New and improved with large windowed and lights, men in suits and fashionable sights.  The high cluttered skyline reflecting monetary gain, decorative, alluring, enticing one to attain.  Modern, clean, the apex of civilized life. What price must one pay for this utopia, void of trouble and strife.

Hangzhou old town
A local lady avoiding the harsh midday sun as she crosses the street in old town.

As a young girl attempts to take a photo without knowing, the camera is turned on her, we share a smile.

Down by Qiantang waterfront artwork covers the length of the barrier wall.   Many of the paintings remember
the tidal bore that entered the bay in 2010 injuring spectators. Other show the thoughts and views of artist.

One of the many new building works in Hangzhou towering into the sky.

A small weed breaking through the pavement.

In a world of rules and regulations simple acts of rebellion are to be praised.  Achieving is not the goal, trying is everything.  Against all odds, against the doubters, those who fear, listen to yourself, know, do, and live a life with freedom in your soul.

The view over derelict land to the new sky-rises, they call it progress.

She does not speak, offering only acknowledgement by glance.  Covered in dirt and grime, a consequence of collecting garbage from streets, there is pride in her movements, in the way she holds herself, she is slow and meticulous.  She asks for nothing yet we feel compelled to give her the few coins that we have.  There is life in her eyes, embers of something more.

Collecting garbage to be recycled is a way for some to earn a living.

The old areas of Hangzhou are slowly being destroyed, between these building life continues.

A table of guys enjoying food and beers in a street cafe, we decided to make friends.

Small side streets that we just find interesting, full of stories.
